DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES BREAKDOWN
MEETING MY MENTOR
Met with Darryl Greene, discussed goals, backgrounds, expectations of the internship. Mr. Greene gave me my first assignment of researching becoming an agent and planned to reconnect after that.
RESEARCHING HOW TO BECOME AN AGENT
Researched standards, requirements and procedure for becoming an NBA agent and NFL agent. Compared which one suits my goals better and where I would start when it was time for me to make the career move.
LEARNING THE ART OF CREATING MARKETING MATERIAL
Learned how to create marketing materials in order to promote athletes and their talents. Marketing is a major part of being an agent. Having material that is aesthetically pleasing and appealing will help the athlete have an opportunity.
MARKETING DESHAUN THROWER
Created materials in order to market Deshaun to all fellow teams. This included making a flyer and youtube video. It was very unique creating a movie from start to finish. It also helped teams see what he has done in the past.
CONNECTING WITH FIBA TEAMS
FIBA process is interesting and had to reach out to different federations within countries in order to gain access to the teams that would eventually be interested in a player. This was a little challenging with time changes and barriers.
CONNECTING WITH G LEAGUE TEAMS
After we connected with FIBA teams, we tried to reach out to G League teams in order to gauge interest and enquire about the tryout process. Although it is one league, the teams run independently and have different standards in regards to tryouts.
HART TOURNAMENT
During this process the Hart Tournament occurred. The Hart tournament is an opportunity for athletes to display their skills in front of overseas scouts. For this I created a flyer and attached the video again so they could know who Deshaun was before he played.
PURSUING TRYOUTS
After the Hart Tournament, there were tryouts for multiple G League teams I had to enquire with and find out requirements. There were a lot of G league teams who did not host tryouts because of COVID which made it harder.
FUTURE WORKOUT OPPORTUNITIES
Due to mandates, Deshaun was not vaccinated which meant he could not attend a lot of tryouts. This phase was used to continue to push his name and see if any teams had a need for a player during the season. We also continued to enquire about FIBA opportunities just in case countries were ready to proceed post COVID.
